The Dutch are protected from an event every 10,000 years. Our protection is built for an event every 100 to 200 years. Future hurricanes will be far better handled by a flood gate system like the Dutch versus building levees higher. The costs of maintaining this type of flood protection could be generated through taxes on real estate and tourism. |

If one looks at the street car tracks on canal blvd near carollton, how sad that all the beautiful azaleas were torn out. perhaps the transportation needs in that area warranted it, but in Lakeview we do not need it |

Most homes in Lakeview were valued $300,000 and up before Hurricane Katrina. The program should take their FMV less any insurance received and then take the lower of FMV less insurance or $150,000. Right now the program capps at $150,000. We had about $140,000 insurance and would only be eligible for $10,000 under the program. This program rewards people who had no insurance. Also, I like to remind the city that the homes valued $150,000 and up were paying a large portion of the real estate taxes in prior years. |

I do not want a bus barn right down the street on Canal Blvd. I would like to see more attention paid to the types of new construction allowed in the area particularly commericial construction and more attention paid to zoning issues for that area and more attetion paid to the historic value of many of the existion homes. However, I believe it is used as a warehouse for school equipment. IF the school was torn down, this would be a perfect location for a small park - bringing green space to Lakeview. It could look similar to Lake Vista where homes face lawns and trees ..... |

Since this issue is very complicated to resolve and requires federal inputs, we must find a way to motivate residents to start renovations. In order to stimulate this process, financial bonuses should be offered to residents who begin construction - reconstruction before a certain deadline to be determined by a vote of Lakeview residents. |
